Conditions could not have been better for whale watching today! We found a couple of pods feeding just outside of Twofold Bay. We then went out a little further and were mugged by over a dozen whales, spy hopping and others cruising around and underneath the boat. Several other pods were visible near by.
Thursday 20 September 2018
The whales were all on the move today, we spotted our first whale south east of Boyd’s Tower. Heading north we spotted another 2 pods of 2 whales and observed them as they made their way south. We then went out wider and saw another couple motoring south. Just north of Mew stone we found a pod of 2 who we were also on the move south. We also sighted a large pod of Common Dolphins feeding and then just inside north head we had a possible sighting of a dwarf Minke whale.
Wednesday 19 September 2018
Despite the windy conditions, we had some great action today from the pods we encountered. We observed them spy hopping, tail slapping and head lunging. There were also lots of albatross and the common dolphins enjoyed playing in the wake of the boat.
Tuesday 18 September 2018
We sighted 5-6 pods of humpback whales today, approx. 12 whales in total. We had 3 coming in close to the boat giving us a nice close look at them.
Monday 17 September 2018
We travelled out toward Mew stone this morning in beautiful calm, sunny conditions and found a pod of 3 whales who were quickly joined by another 2 and they all then began lateral lunge feeding right in front of us. Once they had finished feeding 2-3 of them came in nice and close, spy hopping and cruising all around the boat. Not sure if they were people watching or we were whale watching today.
Sunday 16 September 2018
We saw 2 humpback whales just in front of Calle Calle Bay this morning, and then came across another 2 out a little wider, they did a loop around the boat giving us a nice close look at them. We then travelled on to find another 4 out North. One surprised us with a massive breach right in front of the boat, we were also treated to a few tails, and pec slaps. A couple of the whales mugged us as well. We also sighted a couple of pods of Common Dolphins on our way and saw a large pod of them feeding just north of Mewstone. Lots of Albatross around today and a couple of Seals.
Friday 14 September 2018
We hadn’t ventured far this morning before we came across a pod of 2 humpback whales just inside the bay near Mew Stone. After travelling a little further we met with a very curious juvenile humpback just NE of Mew stone. He had us all moving from one side of the boat to the other multiple times as he passed under the boat surfaced on the other side. We then headed East around 8 miles offshore to find approx. 20 very active whales. With multiple breaches, tail slaps, pec slapping, spy hopping happing all while 12 whales took turns mugging the boat. With all this happening all at once, it was hard to know where to look. A great day to be whale watching!!
Tuesday 11 September 2018
We found a pod of 3 whales SE of Boyd’s Tower on this mornings cruise. They seemed to enjoy the choppy conditions showing us lots of tail and pec slaps as well as a few spy hops.
Monday 10 September 2018
Another calm, sunny morning and we spotted a seal rafted up in the water on our way out of Twofold Bay this morning and not long after we were joined by a pod of Common Dolphins. We then came across 2 Humpback whales east of The Lookout. After spending some time with them we headed north and found a couple of very active whales. We were treated to a great display of breaches, pec slapping and they came in close to give us a wave.
Sunday 9 September 2018
On this mornings Whale Watch cruise we didn’t have to go far before we saw a single humpback whale NE of Boyd’s Tower. We then headed SE of Boyd’s Tower where approx. 12 whales mugged us for around 45 mins and there were more whales active bit further out. We had a Mother & calf in this group, who weren’t shy about showing us their tails, we had one do a peduncle throw right in front of the boat and another did a spy hop very close into the side of the boat. We also observed this group lateral lunge feeding. Fantastic morning of Whale Watching!
On our Twofold Bay cruise this afternoon we spotted a few whales East of Boyd’s Tower so we took a short detour seeing approx. 7 Humpbacks, couple of breaches and tail slapping.
