It was a stunning day on the water after a SW change overnight.
The water was like glass on the first whale watch and we found several mother/calf pods on the southern side of Twofold Bay, including a mother & calf Bryde’s whale. Dolphins and Australasian Gannets provided entertainment in a feeding frenzy on several bait balls. One of the calves breached several times. We also picked up whale singing through the hydrophone.
The second trip found one of the earlier mother/calf pods with the calf going crazy with too many breaches to count. The mother had a distinctive white fluke, making her easy to recognize.
A coach group doing our Twofold Bay Highlights cruise later were also fortunate to resight this same mother & calf near South Head.
